BLOC PARTY
London’s Bloc Party have risen from obscurity to stardom in a very short space of time – and not without good reason! Combining the angular riffs of New York’s The Strokes with a very British dance sensibility, Bloc Party have created music that grooves as much as it rocks.

Emerging from London’s New Cross in 2003, Bloc Party attracted the interest of Radio 1’s Champion of New Music, Steve Lamacq when singer-guitarist Kele Okereke pressed a copy of their demo on him at a Franz Ferdinand gig.

Figuring that the Scottish quartet shared a similar interest in music, Kele cornered Alex Kapranos and gave him a copy too. The result was Lamacq playing the demo "She’s Hearing Voices" on his influential Radio 1 show while Franz Ferdinand offered Bloc Party a crucial support slot at London’s Electrowerks venue!

Releasing a couple of independent singles to great acclaim, Bloc Party signed to the Wichita label before hitting the Top 40 with ‘Little Thoughts’. This was followed by "Helicopter" , which became their first Top 30 hit.

Bloc Party’s debut album"The Silent Alarm" was released in early 2005 to great acclaim and establishes them as one of Britain’s hottest bands.

FRANZ FERDINAND
It very nearly didn’t happen. Franz Ferdinand singer Alex Kapranos first met guitarist Nick McCarthy three years ago at a party in Glasgow when McCarthy tried to steal Alex’s bottle of vodka. Discovering a shared love of music, the pair decided that forming a band was infinitely preferable to a punch-up and so, recruiting bassist Bob Hardy and drummer Paul Thompson, decided to make music that "…girls could dance to."

Taking over an art-deco warehouse, Franz Ferdinand quickly made a name for themselves with regular DIY gigs before attracting the attentions of the music biz – one gig attracted 40 record labels!

Signing to independent label Domino, Franz Ferdinand’s brand of punk-funk came as a breath of fresh air and their eponymous debut album gave rise to the hits "Michael" , "Darts Of Pleasure" and the dancefloor smash" "Take Me Out" .

Having secured a reputation as a fearsome live band, Franz Ferdinand’s exuberant gigs sold out in minutes while this summer saw the band conquer the V Festivals at Staffordshire and Chelmsford.

Their highly anticipated new album, You could Have It So Much Better" " was released in October and was be preceded by the smash single "Do You Want To" .
