IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT...

There's so much hot stuff out this week the weather has actually changed, making a contribution to global warming. Neigh sayers may put it down to Spring or seasons change or something, but we think it has to be down to The Horrors, whose debut album has warmed up the coolest ears and Kaiser Chiefs who have shot straight in to Number 1 with their latest. Add to that Klaxons, Take That, Amy Winehouse and newcomers Colum Regan who are all doing swift business. The polar ice caps are surely doomed. There's only one way to save them and that's to stop buying eco-unfriendly CDs and hit that download button now. The future of the World is in your hands my friend...

Arcade Fire

Is there any cooler band on the planet at the moment? Montreal's finest list David Bowie, U2, David Byrne and Coldplay amongst their fans (Chris Martin reckons they're 'the greatest band in history'), and who are we to argue with them? The much anticipated follow up to debut album Funeral, in The Neon Bible the husband and wife-led band continue their eccentric tendancies: much as we love Girls Aloud, do they record in their own converted church studio, and feature a Hungarian orchestra, a military choir, a pipe organ, bass steel drums and a hurdy-gurdy on their albums? Check it out.

The Electric Cinema S Ringtone

Although never really the home of rock and roll, The Electric Cinema have emerged from Watford with their self-funded eponymous debut. Kicking off with forthcoming single Cut Down, the band have created an album which is not only brimming with pure pop choruses but also displays moments of beautiful fragility. Often at the same time: one critic commented that they're 'like laughing through tears' which we think is pretty much spot on. The band hit the road at the following venues, so if you're nearby spend an evening at the cinema.

Saturday 10th March - The Actress, Birmingham
Tuesday 13th March - The Horns, Watford
Wednesday 21st March - Curious Generation @ Madame Jo Jo's, London
Thursday 22nd March - Basement Bar @ City Screen, York
Saturday 24th March - Kings Arms, Salford
Tuesday 27th March - Pressure Point, Brighton

Competition!

The band have kindly given us a pair of tickets for their gig at Curious Generation @ Madame Jo Jo's to give away to a lucky Wippit customer. To win just tell what the Electric Cinema's first single was before Friday 16th, and they're all yours.

Asah S

Asah is Nigarian songwriter. And that's pretty much all we (or anyone else) seems to know about her. Except that since hearing this tune, we've not been able to turn it off. Mixing her soulful African roots with smooth pop production she's created an infectious tune Lily Allen would probably kill to have. We hear that Asah's got an album coming out later in the year, so check out this rising star now.
