Things never stop round these parts as this week sees releases from Brighton all-girl The Pipettes, the supremely creative hip-hop of Dangerdoom, a history lesson from lo-fi indie stalwarts Sebadoh and the slinky grooves of Flanders. New in this week
The Pipettes - Pull Shapes
Utterly infectious indie-pop from the all-girl Brighton trio, Pull Shapes is a single that’s totally in thrall to the joys of Phil Spector, the heyday of the Brill Building, the shiver-up-the-spine vocals of The Shangri-Las and pop music at its purest.
Dangerdoom - Old School Before there was Gnarls Barkley we had Dangerdoom. Combining the talents of Danger Mouse and rapper MF Doom, Dangerdoom is an incredible collaboration by two of hip-hop’s most innovative artists and a fantastic example of artists on top of their game.
Flanders - By My Side  With summer still in full, sultry swing, what better way to soundtrack your sweltering fun than this delicious slice of funky house grooves? Silky smooth and a treat for the ears, this is a must-download joy. Sebadoh - Sebadoh III Fronted by former – though now reunited – Dinosaur Jr bassist Lou Barlow, Sebadoh’s 1991 album III, alongside Pavement’s Slanted & Enchanted, was the moment that US indie veered  from folk musings to noise terror, this remains a crucial album.
Wolfmother

To celebrate the release of their new single, the rollicking number that is Woman, singer-guitarist Andrew Stockdale and drummer Myles Heskett of hard rocking Aussie sensations Wolfmother swung by Wippit Towers to chat about their influences and make a few exclusive recommendations for you.

Jimi Hendrix – Crosstown Traffic: “Oh man! We just love that combination of psychedelic blues and jazz. We all know about Hendrix but check out Mitch Mitchell’s drumming!”

Black Sabbath - Iron Rule: “It’s not just Tony Iommi’s riffs that make it for us, it’s the way the band blends together – Ozzy’s singing, Geezer’s massive bass and the way Bill Ward hammers his kit!”

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew: “We absolutely love jazz and we got introduced to this a few years back; utterly primal and with a touch of black magic shit, this is a totally crazy album.”

Beck - Diamond Bolloacks: “Beck’s great but it’s really Joey Waronker’s drumming that does it for us, especially when he goes totally mental towards the end.”

The Stooges - The Stooges: “We’ve been influenced by punk as much as heavy rock and this album sits between the two. Iggy Pop is just out there!”

Wolfmother Competition

Congratulations to [Carole, Thomas and Charlotte] who all bagged themselves and exclusive Jim Noir replica football and a pat on the back to Matt who got himself and a friend onto Twentysixfeet’s guest list.

During their visit to Wippit, Wolfmother rather kindly left behind three T-shirts for us to give away. To grab one of these heavy-rockin’ garments, just answer this simple question: What kills a werewolf? Is it:

(a) Garlic
(b) A silver bullet
(c) A smack in the face

Send your answer to us here by 5pm, Tuesday 18th July 2006 – good luck!
