Glideascope

Glideascope - Big Big Disgrace
Fifteen years on from Massive Attack’s Unfinished Sympathy, trip-hop’s legacy is thriving. Zero 7, Faithless and Groove Armada all have their roots in the Bristol sound and Notting Hill’s Glideascope is no exception. His chilled-out beats, cinematic strings and emotive electronica, fused with African rhythms and Asian folk, also bring to mind Nitin Sawhney and Portishead. Taken from debut LP Audio Cinematography, new single Big Big Disgrace features gentle hip-hop beats and smoky rap.

1980 Forward
Launched in 1980, two years after Factory Records, 4AD quickly became the iconic home of atmospheric and artful new music, its strong identity reinforced by quality sleeve artwork by Vaughan Oliver. The über cool label even had a freak UK number one during the early days of house with M/A/R/R/S’ Pump Up The Volume. Influential bands like The Birthday Party, Throwing Muses, Pixies and Dead Can Dance saw service with 4AD and can all be heard on this 18-track 25th anniversary compilation.

Yo La Tengo

Featured Artist - Yo La Tengo
In a career spanning over twenty years, Yo La Tengo haven’t seen huge success but they’ve certainly put themselves about a bit. Hoboken’s husband and wife duo have appeared as The Velvet Underground in the movie I Shot Andy Warhol, collaborated with Yoko Ono on an album inspired by Hedwig and the Angry Inch and performed the Simpsons theme at the end of an episode. They even host the annual Hanukkahpalooza festival in New Jersey, and we’ve not yet touched upon their blend of punk, jangle-pop, folk, noise-rock and shoegazing indie. Download their Ouvre at Wippit and catch them ona UK tour in October.

Classic Movie Review - Scarface
"Say hello to my leetle fren!" In one of his most iconic performances, Al Pacino plays Tony Montana - a Cuban Gangster building a drugs empire in 1980's Miami. As his cocaine business takes off, Montana's ego and his paranoia grow and threaten to destroy him. Scarface is an ultra violent study of one mans determination to live the American Dream at any cost.
