Plague Songs

Various - Plague Songs
Scott Walker, Brian Eno, Robert Wyatt, Rufus Wainwright, Laurie Anderson and other singer/songwriters have contributed to this collection of songs inspired by the ten Biblical plagues in the Book of Exodus. These tracks were originally written for The Margate Exodus, a large-scale, one-day arts event, soon to be turned into a film by acclaimed documentary maker Penny Woolcock. Last month, the coastal town was transformed into the setting for this epic movie about the Israelites’ flight from Egypt, with a cast of thousands, a 25-metre high sacrificial sculpture and a programme of live performance by the artists on Plague Songs. A fascinating and unsettling album, it also features King Creosote, Imogen Heap and The Tiger Lillies.

twentysixfeet
Electronically-charged pulse-rockers twentysixfeet take the visceral, uneasy listening of their debut six-track mini-album Two Hours of Passionless Tango on the road this month. Their darkly atmospheric post-rock sounds with samples and dancey beats have prompted comparisons with Tool, Radiohead, Deftones and Mars Volta. They however would suggest simply that their sound is that of “five extremely well-adjusted young men throwing their toys out of the pram". Come see for yourselves when twentysixfeet’s UK tour starts in London on October 12th

Move Review - United 93 - Special Offer: Only £9.99 to Subscribers
We all know what happened on September 11 2001. And while Oliver Stone’s current cinema release World Trade Center concentrates on the acts of heroism and self-sacrifice in New York that day, United 93 follows the flight path of the only one of four hijacked planes not to reach its gruesome destination. Using black box recordings and mobile phone calls from those aboard the doomed flight to San Francisco, United 93 tells the deeply emotional tale of how the passengers fought back.

Movie Review - Curious George
An institution in the US, the Curious George books by husband and wife team Hans and Margret Rey, have been entertaining children since the Forties. So it was with a great sense of reverence and affection that this animated version was greeted by the public on its release. With the voices of Will Ferrell, Drew Barrymore and Dick Van Dyke and a whole set of new songs by Jack Johnson, this humorous tale of a monkey who sticks his nose in everything is a great big warm cuddly hug of a movie.
