London 1st April 2004 - Wippit, the London based music subscription service is to offer ‘a la carte’ music downloads from EMI Music, BMG and 2,700 independent labels and offer the option of purchasing music downloads using an SMS mobile phone billing option. Wippit will continue its groundbreaking subscription service and has added the flexibility of ‘a la carte’ music downloads direct from the Wippit web site for customers who are not yet ready to commit to an annual subscription.
The addition of music content from two major labels, EMI Music and BMG as well as many highly regarded independent record labels will bring a wealth of new music to one of the original download services with artists such as; Kylie, Blue, Jamelia, Rolling Stones, Pink, Dido, Christina Aguilera, Will Young and Queen. This expands the current catalogue from 60,000 available to 150,000 with the emphasis on quality.
Wippit is synonymous with user flexibility and value and as before all audio files downloaded from Wippit are transferable to portable devices and can be burned to CD.

Wippit’s new SMS billing facility means that individual downloads can be searched and downloaded from the new Wippit web site and purchased using a mobile phone, negating the necessity of a credit card in the transaction process. Wippit’s SMS billing facility opens up a previously ignored youth market.
Initially available to UK customers only the SMS billing facility will be introduced to other territories including the US, Germany, Spain and Sweden.
Peter Jamieson, chairman of the UK record companies' association the BPI, says, "We congratulate Wippit on further extending the choice of legal online music services to the UK consumer. It is the result of a huge amount of hard work both on the part of Wippit and the UK record labels it has licensed from. Month by month we are seeing an increase in the quality and quantity of legal online music services in the UK; the legitimate online music revolution is beginning to happen."
The price of an annual Wippit subscription will increase from £30 (US $50 / €45) to £49.99 ($89.99 / €74.99) to reflect the additional quality content that is being made available. Individual downloads are priced .29p, .49p, .79p and .99p ($0.49 - $1.59 / €0.39 - €1.39). As before Wippit will continue to offer free promotional downloads to registered users.
Wippit also adds software titles for the first time primarily in the music, video, entertainment, games and creative fields, those most relevant to Wippit customers. These will not included as part of a Wippit subscription but sold at competitive rates from the new Wippit web site.
